Frank Batten Sr., biggest UVA donor, dies

Biggest UVA donor Frank Batten Sr. died Thursday at 82, reports the Associated Press.

Batten, retired chairman of Landmark Communications, donated $100 million to the University in 2007 for the creation of the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy and $60 million in 1999 to the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration.

Batten developed The Weather Channel in the 1980s and served as the Associated Press board chairman from 1982-1987.

Batten is survived by his wife Jane and two daughters.
