The free speech wall at the east end of the Downtown Mall is a finalist for a national award. NBC29 reports that the "Communty Chalkboard" had made it to the top five finalists for the 2009 Rudy Bruner Award, which recognizes communities that have transformed "urban problems into creative solutions."
The winner receives $50,000 and the remaining four will pocket $10,000 each.
This year’s other finalists are:
– Hunts Point Riverside Park, Bronx, NY;
– Inner-City Arts, Los Angeles;
– Millennium Park, Chicago;
– St. Joseph Rebuild Center, New Orleans
