The Clash! Fish ‘n’ Chips! Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, and Buckingham Palace! What city is the 500 east block celebrating this week? That’s elementary, my dear Brickson. …It’s London! To celebrate the 500 block’s "completion," the Downtown Business Association and the city will be throwing yet another wildly (mildly?) successful block party.
The block "party" will kick off with a pub crawl tonight starting at 6pm. You can crawl around the "surrounding area’s bars and restaurants" (according to this) like Bashir’s, C&O, Tasting’s (which is kinda on the 500 block), and Court Square Tavern (WTF), to name a few. There will be British food specials at all participating restaurants (please no haggis in brown sauce).
Saturday will host family fun outside from noon to 4pm (and it’s supposed to be loverly). Highlights include games, crafting a version of the London skyline at the Virginia Discovery Museum (where a portion of the week’s sales—from participating retailers—will go), high tea at the Cat House, and a "Royal Doggie Photo Op" at the Dog and Horse Boutique. At 7pm there will be a battle of the bands in honor of the British invasion. All in all, sounds like a pretty nice little Saturday. Maybe we’ll have a little bangers and mash? We don’t know. We don’t know if we’ll have time.
In other brick-based news, gently used bricks from our Mall are for sale today from noon to 3pm at the City’s Warehouse outlet on Fourth Street NW. The individual bricks are being sold as "souvenir bricks" and are priced at $5 a brick. Don’t know what to do with your sounvenir brick? Brick Watch has you covered.
Lord Brickingham stopped by the C-VILLE office today in honor of the 500 east block’s completion. Unfortunately, he is unable to attend this weekend’s festivities.
