No brickos, not even a little snow can hold down the bricks. "It’s no biggie," says Barton Malow Project Manager Chris Weatherford. (And he’s right—it ain’t no Biggie.) The snow won’t be any delay to rebricking our lovely Mall, as crews will likely be working this Saturday to make up for the time lost yesterday.
Brick Watch, being the curious, gadget nerds we are, asked Weatherford if he had some super-top-secret, government clearance, extra-terrestrial-technology for clearing the snow. "Basically," said Weatherford, "we have shovels." That works, too.
BW has been a bit wary of the slowness of work on our own 300 east block. We must report, gleefully, there have been some bricks lain (and right in front of our office door)! However, upon further examination, some of them are still a little uneven. Apparently, this is because the bricks are first lain, then reviewed and tightened into their positions. Also: Some of the newly opened sections, as they begin to settle, will be a bit unlevel, but only for a short while.
We have also been a bit critical of the lack of rebricking of the Mall’s south side, as blocks are celebrating their alleged "completion" every week, but the south sides go unfinished! This, says Weatherford, will be the very last portion of the Mall completed before work begins on the streets. And indeed, work has already begun on the 400 east block’s south walkways. There’s also some electrical and water line work going on around Central Place today. We saw some subterrestrial crew members really getting into their work this morning.
BIG HOLE! (Name that reference…)
